A Maasai love story

The car came to a stop in what seemed to be the middle of no-where to Edward but to Naila this was her home. This was where she had officially been introduced to the nightmares that haunted her sleep every night. They alighted from the van .There were about ten communal mud houses which were singularly fenced with acacia thorns making up a full emanyatta just like Naila had told him .Edward was fascinated with all these but Naila had this look on her face like she had just run into a ghost .She felt like she was about to walk into a hungry lion’s den. Edward tried to pull her closer as if to let her know that it will all be ok.
She had tried to escape the ghost from her past; she was now an independent woman rubbing shoulders with the crème Del crème of the high society in Hollywood. She had learnt to put that part of her in a box and would only bring it out in the night, crying herself to sleep while earnestly begging the gods to take away her pain. It felt like it was about to consume her raw and everyday it became harder for her to continue the façade.
The media had termed her a legend in the making, a strong independent woman .She was beautiful, talented, humble even after mega success .She was dating a handsome wealthy entrepreneur and according to the press she was as happy as can be. Parents wanted their daughters to grow up to be just like her. She would smile and pose for pictures and act like her world was just perfect but inside she was breaking down, fighting demons only she knew about. As they say you can run but you can’t hide from yourself .It was about time she dealt face to face with her past.
Her therapist had suggested that she should go back to Kenya and find peace with everything that had happened there. It was the only way for her to move forward and begin to heal all of her deep emotional wounds. At first she was unsure  ,she didn’t feel ready to face those  people who had brought her so much pain .She couldn’t understand how any parent would put their only daughter through such a horrific and traumatising experience .She had hoped time would heal her wounds but there is some pain not even an eternity can erase. Her boyfriend Edward had nagged her about it and finally she decided to book an airplane ticket, if it would get too much he had promised he would be there to lean on. He had always been there for her, he was just amazing, and she was a lucky woman to have him.
Two weeks later they were on a plane, she felt nervous to the point of nausea. Edward tried his best to calm her down and just be there for her. She suddenly felt like it was a bad idea, she wished she could just jump out of the plane and land safely in her warm fuzzy bed .Edward kept telling her that it was going to be okay and all she had to do was stay calm .In the end, the emotional turmoil stirring inside her proved too much to bare and he had to give her sleeping pills. She had nightmares and kept turning and tossing in her seat.
She awoke, startled by the flight attendant asking people to fasten their seatbelt and be ready to land. Edward handled everything after they landed while she sat trying to avoid anyone noticing her. She wanted to keep a low profile as possible; she was here for personal business only. It took a long time than she had expected but finally they were allowed to leave the airport. They quickly got in their rented van and drove off before anyone took a photo of them and upload it to their social media accounts. It took another four hours to get to her rural home situated deep in the Maasai land. She swallowed two more sleeping pills, sleeping through the scenic journey. Edward on the other hand was all excitement and in awe of the beauty of the land, he took so many photos. He was like a child with a new toy.
